How it works
What is SlangShare?
A collaborative dictionary of slang and expressions from all over the world. Anyone can explain what a slang term means, give an example of use and say where it's from — and read it in their own language.
Who writes the meanings?
People who use the site, and our research tool: an AI that looks for slang in public sources, only publishes it when it finds independent evidence that it's really used, and links those sources. Entries collected this way are marked and anyone can report a mistake.
Why does a slang term have several meanings?
Because the same word changes meaning from one place to another, or two people explain it differently. Each explanation shows up separately, and votes decide which one goes on top.
How do votes work?
👍 if the explanation is good, 👎 if it isn't. The order isn't just the sum: an explanation with 90 👍 and 10 👎 ranks above one with 2 👍 and no 👎, because more people confirmed it.
What about the videos?
Short videos show the slang in use, spoken in its original language, with subtitles in yours. Some are generated by artificial intelligence and all are reviewed by a person before going live.
Who are the contributors?
The list of people who contributed the most slang.
